Why it matters / What is the DPP?

The Digital Product Passport is a digital product-data record introduced under EU product legislation. It links products to structured information on compliance, materials, sustainability, repair, recycling and other product-specific requirements.

Who is affected?

Obligations depend on the product group and the role in the value chain. Manufacturers and importers are central, but component producers, distributors, dealers, suppliers and other actors may also have responsibilities.

When does the DPP become mandatory?

There is no single DPP deadline. Requirements are introduced product by product through ESPR delegated acts and other EU legislation, each with its own adoption and application timeline.

What are the technical standards?

The DPP system is being standardised at European level through CEN/CLC/JTC 24. The standards cover identifiers, data carriers, interoperability, APIs, data exchange, storage, access rights and security, authentication and data integrity.
